Do you? Beijing Olympic games is around the corner, the Chinese goverment has conduct to check foreigners residency papers to bolster security of the country.
According to Shanghai Public Security Bureau, the Exit-Entry Administration, foreigners in Shanghai should carry their passport at all times as Police carry out increasingly frequent random checks; failure to produce your ID can lead to a fine or detention. Make sure your passport is in a minimum validity of six months, and a valid Chinese Visa.
You are also required to register your place of residence with the local Public Security Bureau within 24 hours of arrival. Chinese authorities are now actively enforcing this requirement. If you are staying in a hotel, registration is done on your behalf as part of the check-in process.
Has anyone been asked to show your passport in Shanghai recently? So… I need to carry my passport everywhere I go!

My name is Bibi Liew and I'm a third-generation oversea Chinese. I'm born on the 3rd of November and that makes me a typical Scorpio. I stayed in several countries and ended up in Shanghai for reasons that are still not entirely clear to myself... I came to China and work as an Expatriate in 2004. I am an Interior Architect and design Hotels and Club Houses in many Cities in China. Ron and I will relocate to Nanchang in March 2010 and I'll be a WAHM!
